Triple Challenge competitors ready to go
The Bermuda Triple Challenge is set to start tonight with participants putting themselves to the test in aid of charity.
Tomorrow evening, competitors will participate in the first leg of the fundraising competition — the Butterfield and Vallis Urban Foot Race, which sets out from King’s Square in St George’s.
That race will be followed on Saturday morning by the KryS Global Island Challenge, starting at Warwick Camp, and Sunday’s Ace Global Royal Challenge, which sets out from the Victualling Yard in Dockyard.
This year, the competition will raise funds for a number of charities, including Knowledge Quest, The Sunshine League, Raleigh International, Bermuda Insurance Institute, New Beginnings Education Trust, St George’s Prep and both East End Primary and Somerset Primary Parent Teacher Associations.
Event co-founder Dr Reid Robinson said: “Many charities are struggling to keep their heads above water and continue to support those in need.
“We also acknowledge that many events have the appearance of being ‘competitive’ and we want to change that perception. It’s about fun, functional movement with friends and family.
“The Bermuda Triple Challenge addresses both components, incorporating mental and physical challenges while raising funds for the charities that help marshal the events. It’s a win-win.”
Event co-founder Jason Correia said organisers had lined up a host of new and interesting challenges for this year’s competitors.
“All the challenges are very achievable to all participants, but if you’d rather skip an obstacle, no big deal, we’ve got something else special for you,” he said. “Having fun is important, so don’t be afraid to humour yourself in your team’s fanciest dress up costumes. It’s certainly something that is encouraged.”
Registration is on racedayworld.com and teams of two or four individuals can sign up for any one, two or all three challenges. Fund raising electronically is also available through Raceday World.
The Butterfield and Vallis Urban Foot Race is scheduled to begin at 7.15pm today, and will be followed by a family friendly “afterparty”.
The KryS Global Island Challenge will start at 9.30am tomorrow and the Ace Global Royal Challenge will start at 8.30am on Sunday, followed by breakfast service, prize presentation and closing ceremony.
