The Bahamian Prime Minister has added a personal tribute to the late former Premier of Bermuda Sir David Gibbons.

And Perry Christie said Sir David’s business acumen had impacted The Bahamas, as well as his homeland

Mr Christie added: “Although a patriotic native of Bermuda, Sir David was proud of his connection to The Bahamas and its people, among whom he claimed a great many of his friends.

“He always took a keen interest in Bahamian affairs and was unfailingly generous and constructive in his advice to successive governments of The Bahamas.”

Mr Christie said that Sir David, who died last month aged 86, had not only invested in The Bahamas but had lived there for some time as well.

Sir David’s interests in The Bahamas included the liquor business through a shareholding in the ABDAB/General Bahamian Companies and in insurance as “the driving force” behind Atlantic Medical.

Mr Christie added: “On behalf of the government and people of The Bahamas, and on my own behalf, I extend condolences to Sir David’s bereaved family and to the government and people of Bermuda.”
