Successful CARIFTA team swimmers praised by Minister

Bermuda’s swimmers have been applauded by Sports Minister Wayne Scott after picking up 22 medals at the CARIFTA Games in Aruba.

Minister Scott said that, like many Bermudians, he had anticipated the swimmers racking up a healthy number of medals — but was “elated” with the final tally.

“Last week Bermuda was filled with much anticipation and pride as reports from Aruba signalled a steady medal count being amassed by the Bermudian Swim team,” Minister Scott, a keen swimmer himself, said.

“I was elated when the final medal count came in at 22 — seven gold, 11 silver and four bronze medals.

“Individual and team efforts were outstanding. I am so proud of our young and super talented athletes. They have represented Bermuda in the CARIFTA Games in such fine form. I look forward to hosting members of the swim team and track and field team at a press conference scheduled for later this week.”

On Saturday, Minister Scott applauded the Island’s CARIFTA athletes while attending the Queen Baton presentation at the Annual Agriculture Exhibition. Members of the 2014 CARIFTA Track Team brought the Baton into the show ring accompanied by former Commonwealth Games athletes, Antione Jones, John Morbey, Conrad Lister and Clarence ‘Nicky’ Saunders.
