Belco asks dog owners to control pets

Belco is asking dog owners to control their pets to prevent potential injuries to staff a pair of incidents.

A spokeswoman for the electricity supply company said: “Workers who must access properties across the Island in order to do their jobs may be exposed to personal risk and injury, including attacks by unsecured or inadequately secured dogs. In recent weeks, Belco workers have been involved in two such incidents.

“Under Bermuda law, owners may be subject to fines or other penalties for failure to ensure that dogs are properly secured at all times. Belcotakes worker safety seriously and thanks dog owners for acting responsibly to ensure that dogs do not pose a threat to workers and the public.”

The statement comes as Belco marks it’s Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Week, which is intended to promote accident prevention and bring attention to the magnitude of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities internationally.
