The first of this year’s Harbour Nights kicks off on Wednesday, with an extended route through Hamilton.

And additional ferry services mean that revellers will be able to enjoy the weekly street fair into the evening and still get a ride home.

The route has changed to encompass more of Front Street, beginning at the corner of Parliament Street and curving up to Queen Street at the birdcage and finishing at the junction of Reid Street.

Chamber of Commerce president Kristi Grayston said that the format was changed after the organisation received feedback from vendors and members.

“Most significant is the addition of late night ferries going westward and additional buses on popular eastbound routes,” Ms Grayston said.

“This singular change will allow visitors and locals to take in the sights and sounds of Harbour Nights and not worry about return transport.”

Public Transportation director Dan Simmons said: “We are happy to work with the Chamber in making Harbour Nights more accessible to persons using public transport. The addition of a 10pm and a 10.30pm ferry on Wednesdays will enable tourists and locals to enjoy a full night out and we expect to see good utilisation of both the bus and ferry service.”

The increase in service was also backed by Bermuda Industrial Union president Chris Furbert.

“The agreement between our three organisations represents the power of partnership and collaboration,” Mr Furbert said.

“We support this initiative wholeheartedly and also expect to see good utilisation of the additional services.”

Harbour Nights is sponsored by The Bermuda Tourism Authority, the City of Hamilton, The Department of Cultural Affairs, BELCO, HSBC, Butterfield Bank, The Bermuda Hotel Association, and Fairmont Southampton Hotel. It will take place every Wednesday through to September 3.
