Man faces trial after alleged baseball bat attack
A Warwick man faces a Supreme Court trial after allegedly attempting to injure a woman while driving a car and also trying to hit her with a baseball bat.
In Magistrates’ Court this morning, Dean Byron, 51, of Rockland Road, was charged with intentionally attempting to do grievous bodily harm to Penelope Henry on April 25 in Paget.
He was also charged with driving in a manner dangerous to the public, having an offensive weapon — a baseball bat — without good reason or lawful authority, causing more than $40,000 in damage to two vehicles and behaving in a threatening manner.
Mr Byron allegedly chased Ms Henry with the bat, telling her: “You better run. It’s been two years since you messed up my life. You will not forget this morning.”
Prosecutor Nicole Smith told the court the two had been in a relationship for ten months between 2011 and 2012.
Representing Mr Byron, who was not required to enter a plea as the case will go to a jury trial, Kim Wilson requested the matter be mentioned in three weeks time.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Mr Byron on $15,000 bail with one surety, ordering him to stay away from the complainant.
He will next appear in court on June 25.
