A Bermuda Institute student has been recommended to attend the 2014 Envision Career Exploration programme at Franklin W Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts in July.

Tariq Basden, 16, received his recommendation from Loras College in Iowa.

Mr Basden is an Honours student who for the past four summers has attended Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth in Baltimore, studying robotics, chemistry, engineering design and biotechnology.

“The National Youth Leadership Forum for Engineering & Technology will provide Tariq with firsthand experiences with professionals in the engineering and technology fields,” read a statement.

“This will better equip him to make informed decisions about choosing the right university, college major and career speciality.”

The forum provides an interactive curriculum, simulation exercises and skills development workshops.

Representatives from the US space agency NASA and Harvard University will be present.
