Canadian navy just thought they’d stop by and say hello

The Royal Canadian Navy’s HMCS Montreal, currently docked on Front Street, has arrived in Bermuda after conducting sea trials.

The trials are important for the Navy to ensure that ships work properly with new equipment, explained Lieutenant Jim Whorley.

“We have all sorts of new equipment on board because the ship just went through a refit programme.” he said. “We have to test all of the different things on board in order to ensure that they’re working properly.

“These trials take us to various parts of the world as we sail and explore different waters. We wanted to go for our first port visit since being out at sea and Bermuda seemed like a fantastic choice to visit.

“It’s been a long time since we came down here and we thought we would stop by and say hello. I’ve personally never been to Bermuda.”

The ship is expected to stay on the Island for three to four more days.
