Nurse to be honoured by Bermuda Health Foundation

Bernella Williams

Bermuda Health Foundation will honour Bernella Williams at the charity’s 12th Annual Awards Luncheon to be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel later this month.

Mother of eight, Mrs Williams was chosen as this year’s recipient of the prestigious Salute to Service award for her contribution to the community as a registered nurse and as an ardent worker at the Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Others who have been honoured include Reginald Burrows, Bruce Barritt, Bishop Vernon Lambe, Liz Boden, former Premier Paula Cox, Dr Clarence James, Alf Oughton, Dr Eugene Harvey and Dr Bert McPhee.

Last year, the Foundation recognised Dr. Malcolm Brock for his contribution to medicine both internationally and in Bermuda.

During the June 20 ceremony, the Foundation will present scholarships to worthy Bermudians who are pursuing careers in the healthcare field.

Last year, thanks to donations from Bermuda’s corporate and private sector, the Foundation was able to assist three Bermudian students to realise their dreams.

Kiara Baxter, Jasmin Caines and Chantae Hollis were each presented scholarships in the amount of $10,000.

During the past 11 years, the Foundation has helped over 30 Bermudian students further their careers in the medical field.

In addition to the luncheon, the Foundation will host their annual Charity Golf Tournament at Belmont Hills on June 21.

Those interested in purchasing tickets for the luncheon or taking part in the golf tournament should contact LaVerne Furbert at 335-8232 or e-mail lavernef@northorock.bm.

Tickets are available at $125 for the luncheon. Entrance fee for the golf tournament is $150 per person or $600 per team.
