Bermuda HealthCare Services (BHCS) has given the Mirrors Programme a $10,000 boost as part of its Community Support Initiative.

Former Premier and BHCS founder Ewart Brown said: “The establishment of the Mirrors Programme in Bermuda is without a doubt one of the proudest moments in my political career.

“Together with Bermudian community leaders of vision, we fought to bring this programme to Bermuda; because we knew the benefit it would give our Island home.

“It is not good enough to simply make money in Bermuda, we at Bermuda HealthCare Services believe that we also have an obligation to give back to Bermuda,” Dr Brown explained. “Our support of the Mirrors Programme represents that belief and we wish the Executive, staff and volunteers at Mirrors much success in the positive work they are doing.”

Mirrors is a volunteer supported programme founded in 2007 to raise the self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth of Bermuda’s youth.

The BHCS Community Support Initiative has also sponsored Bermudian athletes such as Aaron Evans, Arantxa King and Tyrone Smith.

The presentation was one of two involving Dr Brown yesterday, as the former premier also announced Teleza Pitcher as the recipient of the 2014 Brown Family Health Scholarship, which goes toward the Undergraduate or Post Graduate education of a Bermudian Student studying Health Sciences, Dentistry, Nursing or Medicine at Howard University.

Presenting Ms Pitcher with a $5,000 cheque, Dr Brown said: “Bermuda needs more Bermudians taking up careers and leadership roles in the Health Industry.

For that reason, we created The Brown Family Health Scholarship; to give a hand up to Bermudians seeking to take up the challenge, put in the work, return to Bermuda and make a difference in local healthcare. We congratulate Ms Pitcher, and wish her much success as she takes up her studies at Howard University.”
