RG survey: Majority are not keen on gay cruises
Gay cruise ships would not be welcomed by a majority of Bermudians, according to a survey.
Asked if Bermuda should attempt to attract gay-themed cruises, 55 percent of respondents said they did not support the initiative, while just 39 percent approved of the idea.
According to the survey, conducted by Global Research for The Royal Gazette, women are more likely to approve gay cruises coming to Bermuda, with 41 percent of women supporting the idea compared to 35 percent of men.
The latest survey also suggests the Island is becoming less tolerant of gay cruises.
When The Royal Gazette carried out a similar poll in 2010, 53 percent of respondents supported gay cruises visiting Bermuda while 21 percent listed themselves as opposed. A further 26 percent said they had no firm view on the issue.
The survey was carried out in the first week of June when 408 Bermudians over the age of 18 were polled by telephone interview. The study has a margin of error of plus or minus five percent.
