Ironshore in trail clean-up
More than 30 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help improve the appearance of the Railway Trail.
Staff from Ironshore planted a variety of grass plugs, yucca trees and other plants with assistance from the Parks Department as part of the Rails to Trails initiative.
The company is a key sponsor and founding member of Friends of the Bermuda Railway Trail, a non-profit group that aims to connect the historic trail by erecting bridges and clearing paths.
Work is already under way on a pedestrian footbridge over Bailey’s Bay, which is expected to be finished by November.
Governor George Fergusson and his wife Margaret toured the site last week with project donors and Friends of the Bermuda Railway Trail co-founder Mike Murphy.
“We are thrilled to sponsor this ‘Rails to Trails’ initiative as another way to support community health and wellness in Bermuda,” said a company spokesman.
“Connecting the Railway Trail end-to-end benefits both Bermudians and tourists alike by providing a beautiful, safe setting to exercise, commuting to work or simply sightseeing. We hope that this could also be a big tourist draw to Bermuda for trail and biking enthusiasts.”
