Airport baggage handlers’ to discuss ‘areas of concern’
Baggage handlers and other ground crew employed at the LF Wade International Airport are to meet with company bosses this week to discuss “areas of concern” between management and staff.
Yesterday The Royal Gazette received reports that staff, employed to work at the airport by management company Renaissance Aviation, had walked off the job on Saturday, with some arriving passengers unable to collect their luggage as a result.
The airport’s general manager last night dismissed those rumours, but did confirm there were disagreements between the two sides that needed to be addressed.
“I’ve been made aware of some potential areas of concern between staff and management of Renaissance Aviation, the private company licensed to provide ground handling services to commercial airlines at LF Wade,” Aaron Adderley said.
“Both union and Renaissance management communicated with me throughout the day about alleged worker action that fortunately in the end never did quite materialise.
“Renaissance and the union are planning to meet together this week which is good. We have offered to lend whatever assistance we can in those meetings to ensure that whatever issues exist, are addressed.
“It’s important that Renaissance continues to provide the services to the airlines that they’re contracted to provide without disruption.”
Renaissance Aviation is a private company licensed to provide ground handling services at the airport, including baggage handling, operation of aircraft steps and aircraft push back.
