Charities benefit from company ‘Cup Match’
Two charities are better off to the tune of almost $5,000 each thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local law firm over Cup Match.
Appleby staff formed two teams — St George’s and Somerset — to compete in a number of fundraising competitions in the run-up to the annual holiday.
And it was the team representing the East End that emerged victorious, with St George’s players raising $2,290 for The Sunshine League and Somerset collecting $2,240 for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Bermuda. The company’s partners matched those totals, resulting in overall donations of $4,592 to and $4,486.
Monies raised by Appleby staff will benefit the charities’ principal programmes. The Sunshine League has launched Pathways to Independence, a transitional living programme for young men between the ages of 18 and 25 in need of assistance in the areas of education, employment, residential stability and healthcare. A goal-driven programme, each participant identifies and commits to working towards a set of goals with the assistance that the Sunshine League can provide.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda is a mentoring programme dedicated to helping children and youth, primarily from single parent homes, realise their potential by facilitating the development of long-term one-to-one relationships.
