No plans to charge for bike parking
Motorcyclists will not have to pay to park their bikes in Hamilton for the foreseeable future.
Extended pay-and-display tariffs for cars are being rolled out across the city but “the bike policy will remain as is”, according to a spokesman for the Corporation of Hamilton.
“Should any changes arise the public will be well informed,” he added.
The Corporation revealed this week that pay-and-display parking fees are being imposed on all roads in the City of Hamilton from Monday.
Every street will be affected by the tariffs, including those where parking has traditionally been free.
The city will be carved into three zones, each costing either $1, $1.50 or $2 per hour, while all-day parking at Bulls Head and Elliott Street car parks has been reduced from $7 to $5.
The charges will provide a much-needed revenue boost to the cash-strapped Corporation of Hamilton.
Users of EasyPark meters will need to have their device resynced. This can be done online, by visiting an EasyPark merchant or at City Hall.
The update will be available from Saturday with a mobile update from Monday.
Those who breach the parking rules risk being clamped or ticketed, the Corporation warned.
