EasyPark says parking meter glitches are solved
Motorists should be able to use their EasyPark meters at Hamilton car parks after technical glitches were resolved.
An overhaul of the system, including an increase the number of parking zones and amended parking tariffs, was introduced by the Corporation of Hamilton on Monday.
EasyPark users were advised to have their meters recalibrated in order to recognise the new codes.
But an oversight meant that zoning codes for the Bulls Head and Elliott Street car parks were not accepted by about ten percent of the 25,000 EasyPark meters currently in circulation.
The Royal Gazette understands that scores of frustrated commuters were unable to pay parking fees after typing the new codes into their personal meters.
Instead, they had to queue up to pay at cash or debit card meters located in the car parks.
Yesterday a spokesman for EasyPark said the company quickly created new codes on Monday afternoon after the glitch was discovered.
The new codes will be accepted by EasyPark meters that have been upgraded since then.
“We appreciate that everyone’s priority in the morning is to park up, pay, and then get to work so we can understand the frustration of customers who were unable to do that on Monday morning and apologise,” the spokesman said.
“The new system represented a major, significant change, with new zones and new tariffs, and the glitch affected only about ten percent of EasyPark customers, but we are very apologetic to those who were affected.”
