Carnival lines up multiple cruises

Carnival Pride

Carnival Cruise Lines, an occasional caller on the Island, is now set to deliver multiple visits to Bermuda next October, according to the cruise line’s website.

The tourism windfall stands to boost cruise numbers at a time traditionally marking the close of the summer boom — making an increase in the “shoulder season” targeted in the Island’s National Tourism Plan.

The website states the Carnival Sunshine, Carnival Splendor and Carnival Pride are each scheduled to make a single call on Bermuda during October 2015.

The Carnival Pride is also set to return to Kings Wharf in April, 2016.

Carnival Sunshine is set to spend three days in Bermuda as part of an eight-day cruise out of Port Canaveral, Florida, departing on October 2.

Meanwhile the Carnival Splendor sets out for Bermuda on October 23 from Norfolk, Virginia, and the Carnival Pride departs Baltimore, Maryland, for Bermuda on October 26.

The Carnival Pride is set to visit the Island again on another five-day cruise from Baltimore, departing on April 10.

Carnival Cruise Lines have made only a handful of visits to the Island since 2011, when its visits boosted cruise numbers to the historic high of 415,711 visitors.

While the 2011 schedule boasted a total of 16 visits, only one visit was scheduled in 2012 and two in 2013.

Carnival Cruises, a British-American company, made significant cuts to its Bermuda visits at the close of the 2011 season, after Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Norwegian Cruise Lines secured popular summertime berths.

For Carnival to deploy ships during October and April could represent a shift in the company’s policy — settling for softer months at the start and finish of the season.

This year the Carnival Splendor was scheduled to make only one trip to the Island in June — but the vessel returned to Bermudian waters for an unscheduled visit last month, as a result of Hurricane Arthur.
