Reggae dancehall icon Osbourne coming to Island

Coming to Bermuda: Johnny Osbourne

Reggae dancehall icon Johnny Osbourne will showcase the talents that have made him one of the most popular singers in the industry at this year’s Veterans in Action Annual Remembrance Day event.

Mr Osbourne, who rose to prominence in the late 1970s and mid-1980s, will perform alongside fellow Jamaican reggae singer, Singing Melody, at Bermuda Athletic Association Gymnasium on November 10.

Declan Harris, Veterans in Action CEO, said: “Veterans in Action is pleased to announce their line up for their annual Remembrance Day event. We want to welcome dancehall legend Mr Johnny Osbourne alongside Jamaican crooner Mr Singing Melody.”

Mr Osbourne, who recorded extensively for late Jamaican producer Sir Coxsone Dodd at the latter’s iconic Studio One label in the late 70s and early 80s, is best known for his hit songs such as Truths and Rights, Buddy Bye, Ice Cream Love, Little Sound Boy and Water Pumping to name a few.

Singing Melody, whose real name is Everton Hardweare, has earned a good reputation for both his abilities as a vocalist and producer.

Mr Singing Melody’s hits include Shower Me With Your Love and Want You Back which soared to the top of the Jamaican Star’s reggae/dancehall chart while the music video for the song peaked at number two on the MTV2 playlist and was chosen as Song of the Year at the 1999 Reggae/Soca Music Awards.

Mr Osbourne and Mr Singing Melody are the latest veteran reggae artists to appear at the Annual Remembrance Day event, following in the footsteps of legendary dancehall trio Half Pint, Admiral Tibet and Courtney Melody who performed at the previous event held at CedarBridge Academy.

Mr Harris added: “The Veterans in Action producers are pleased to bring more quality acts for the mature client and we believe that the advance ticket price ($30) is affordable for all so that they can enjoy in a night to remember when.”

Veterans in Action were also responsible for last month’s highly successful Cup Match Summer Splash that brought the likes of Tarrus Riley and Machel Montano to Bermuda’s shores.

Also performing at the upcoming Remembrance Day event is local R & B/reggae singer Jessie Seymour.

“Jessie is probably one of Bermuda’s hottest talents that we have from his all round demeanour to his unbelievable voice and great stage presence,” Mr Harris said.

Music will be provided by local sounds King Jyrus, Conscious J and Three the Hard Way while advanced tickets go on sale September 17 and can be purchased online at www.bdatix.bm.
