Bikers warned about chain snatchers

Motorcyclists are being urged to be on their guard after three bikers had chains snatched from around their neck in the last four days.

The spate of chain snatches has been concentrated around the central parishes and the thefts have occurred at various times of the day.

Officers are investigating five separate incidents where offenders travelling by motorcycle have accosted lone bikers in the last few months.

A police spokesman said: “The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public of an increase in reported ‘chain snatching’ incidents.

“It appears that the offenders travel by motorcycle and accost lone motorcyclists, before fleeing with the stolen jewellery.

“No injuries have been reported.

“As a result of these latest incidents, it is recommended that those wearing necklaces tuck them in and be vigilant for any unknown or suspicious individuals approaching them.

“Anyone with information regarding similar suspicious activity should report it to the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
