St Paul AME church celebrates 144th anniversary

Rev. Nicholas Tweed, pastor of St Paul AME Church in Hamilton.

St Paul AME (Cathedral of African Methodism) Church is celebrating its 144th anniversary with a series of events, the first being held today.

Among those events are “Fall into Worship” music workshops featuring various leaders, choir members, musicians and anyone interested in attending.

According to a church press statement, the workshops — which will be held at 12.30pm today and tomorrow — will be facilitated by “the internationally renowned music ministry team from Greater Allen Cathedral AME Church in New York.”

This evening and tomorrow evening at 7.30pm, vocalists and musicians will join in rehearsals for a special concert to be held in the sanctuary on Saturday at 7.30pm.

The anniversary weekend of activities will culminate in a worship experience on Sunday, starting at 10.55am. The church will salute the Butterfield family for “modelling good corporate citizenship through their generous donation to and support for the North Village Community Club Education Centre and their many years of charitable support to Bermuda.”

“The executive, members and friends of North Village will also be in attendance as we recognise the club’s commitment to empowering young people through education and sport.”

Pastor of St. Paul, Rev. Nicholas Tweed said: “This weekend is an opportunity not to be missed. The Greater Allen Music team is much sought after throughout the US and we encourage everyone to take advantage of their presence in Bermuda.

“Through music and in recognising these community-minded individuals St. Paul continues to be a community church where we welcome everyone and where we care for the whole person.”
