Quango boss handed airport deal
A senior officer at a publicly-funded quango is running a company which operates the private jet terminal at the airport.
Anthony Richardson, chief financial officer at Bermuda Land Development Corporation, is also the deputy chairman and a director of Cedar Aviation Services.
His company, incorporated in March this year, was given permission by Government to amalgamate with Aviation Services Bermuda (ASB) in April, according to documents filed with the Registrar of Companies.
ASB offers services for private jets at LF Wade International Airport under an agreement with the Department of Civil Aviation.
Airport manager Aaron Adderley told The Royal Gazette: “Cedar Aviation Ltd currently operates the private jet terminal, having amalgamated with the previous operators, Aviation Services Bermuda (ASB) in April.
“ASB was awarded the contract in 1997. Based largely on a percentage of sales agreement, the airport realises approximately $130,000 per year in revenue from the operator. Additionally, the airport’s private jet operation administers approximately $1 million in landing and terminal fees for the Government.”
Mr Adderley said Cedar’s contract with Government was not due to end until 2019.
Before it amalgamated with Cedar, ASB was a subsidiary of Bermuda Aviation Services.
The latter sold off the business after an unsolicited offer from Mr Richardson’s company.
According to the LF Wade website, Aviation Services Bermuda provides a full range of fixed-based operator facilities and services at the airport, as well as transport and concierge services.
