Bermuda a hit with big spenders

The Reefs hotel and resort, Bermuda

Bermuda has more options than any other destination for Americans willing to pay top dollar for luxury vacations at upmarket hotels, according to a new survey.

A list of the top 20 most expensive resorts in the world visited by US travellers has been published by Business Insider magazine — and four Bermuda hotels make the chart.

The Four Seasons resort in Bora Bora, French Polynesia — which costs $855 per night — tops the list.

But The Reefs Hotel and Club in Southampton, where it will cost you $473 to spend a night, ranks fourth.

The Royal Palms Hotel in Pembroke, the Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Paget and Rosewood Tucker’s Point in Hamilton Parish, all make the top 20.

French Polynesia and Italy both have two hotels in the chart, but no other destination can match Bermuda’s four entries.

According to Business Insider, the chart was compiled by the website Hotels.com, which recently released its annual Hotel Price Index, a report on hotel prices in major destinations across the world that’s based on Hotels.com bookings.

“As part of this report, they found the destinations where US travellers paid the most for hotel rooms — and some of the choices are surprising,” the article claims.

“Instead of sleeping in notoriously expensive cities like Paris or London, Americans are spending more on hotel rates in places like Southampton, Bermuda and Moorea, French Polynesia.”
