Why fly to Bermuda when you can run?

Reza Baluchi is "zorbing" from Miami to Bermuda.

An extreme adventurer has set off on an extraordinary mission to paddle more than 1,000 miles from Florida to Bermuda in a giant plastic ball.

Reza Baluchi left Fort Lauderdale on September 27 in the specially adapted ‘hydro pod’ and is currently heading north parallel with the east coast of Florida.

He plans to travel as far north as Charleston where he will switch direction and head towards the island.

As of yesterday at 6am Mr Baluchi was due east of Daytona Beach in Florida.

The US Coast Guard has been in regular contact with Mr Baluchi and Bermuda Radio are also aware of his attempt to paddle to Bermuda.

The fitness fanatic has completed a string of extreme adventures over the years and has run through Death Valley.

His latest escapade is being done to raise money for children in need and to raise awareness of his Non-Profit Organisation Plant Unity.

The ‘hydro pod’ has been designed by Mr Baluchi and is 3mm thick plastic.

Temperatures inside the ball are expected to reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit during his voyage.

According to his website Mr Baluchi is “an excellent fisherman and he will be catching his food on a daily basis.”

He will need to manually pump his hydro pod for one hour to ensure that it will stay afloat and at night the hydro pod will have a light emitting from the bottom to help with the travel.

The extreme adventurer plans to sleep between 6am and 9am in a hammock inside the pod when the sea is at its calmest

He will then run until his body becomes too hot, at which point he will jump into the sea to cool himself down.

Mr Baluchi has a tracking device on him so that his back up team is aware of his position at all times.
