Early risers will tomorrow have a brief opportunity to see a partial lunar eclipse at around sunrise.

The penumbral eclipse — in which the shadow of the Earth blocks sunlight from the moon — is also expected to cause a “blood moon”, in which the moon appears to turn red due to the reflection of sunsets and sunrises on Earth.

While Pacific nations will be treated to a complete lunar eclipse, stargazers locally will be able to see a partial eclipse.

Locally, the event will begin at around 5.17am, with maximum visibility at around 7.13am. Minutes later, at around 7.17am, the moon will fall below the western horizon, blocking the eclipse. For the best view of the event, stargazers should try to find a spot with an unblocked view of the western horizon.
