Look after seniors during Gonzalo

The community is urged to come together to look after the Island’s seniors during Hurricane Gonzalo.

Check in with elderly family members, friends and neighbours to ensure they are safe and have basic supplies, such as food and flashlights.

Charles Jeffers, chairman of Age Concern’s advocacy committee, said they had stressed to members the need for a hurricane preparedness plan.

“Yesterday, during the EMO press conference, the Premier asked the public to look out for seniors,” he said. “At Age Concern, we support the Premier’s call and the concern expressed for seniors in particular.

“As advocates for seniors we feel it necessary to stress the importance of those related, and others who may be neighbours or friends, to do whatever they can to ensure that seniors are as safe as possible.”

A Hurricane Preparedness information sheet was sent out by email by Age Concern.

“We are aware that many of our seniors will need assistance to carry out their plans, so we again stress that relatives, neighbours, faith groups and community reach out whether they can,” Mr Jeffers said. “It is our hope and prayer that we all come through the experience unscathed.”
