Winds are escalating quickly across the Island and coming in from the southern corner of St George’s and inland from the South Shore, which is bearing the brunt of the storm.

Winds of 46 miles per hour with gusts of 66mph were battering the Causeway at about 4.30pm, according to the latest update from the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS).

At the same time, Commissioner’s Point was being hit by winds of 57mph with gusts of 75mph, while the Marine Operations Centre had winds of 57mph and gusts of 86mph.

Across the Island, elevated areas are braving hurricane-force winds of more than 75mph at this point.

The BWS warns that winds will keep increasing and will reach more than 100mph by early this evening, with seas building to 30-40 feet.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during the lull in winds when the eye of Gonzalo passes across us.
