South Shore is being buffeted by high winds and rain now as Hurricane Gonzalo approaches Bermuda.

The Category 3 hurricane is expected to hit the island at about 8pm.

As of 2.45pm winds were strengthening along the South Shore parts of Smith’s.

The area around Saucos Hill and St Marks Church still had power at that time but other areas across the Island were already reporting outages.

Heavy, driving rain also started to hit Smith’s in the early afternoon.
