HMS Argyll ready to help, Premier says

Premier Michael Dunkley said this morning that Royal Navy warship HMS Argyll was heading for Bermuda to help with post-Gonzalo relief efforts.

“Argyll is a frigate the UK puts in the Caribbean during hurricane season,” Mr Dunkley told the Emergency Broadcast Station at about 10.30am.

“It should get to to Bermuda mid-morning or late morning tomorrow. At that point the storm will have passed.

“Argyll will have the ability to come on the Island and supplement resources we have.

“So many of them are professionals in many different capacities and they have a helicopter if we need to do some aerial reconnaissance, of if any people are injured and we need to move them quickly.”

Mr Dunkley said the emergency services would carry out damage assessments as soon as safely possible.

“We have crews ready to go,” he added.
