Police Commissioner ‘alarmed’ by people outdoors
Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva this morning has spoke of his concern at the number of people outside this morning.
“During the last 30 or 40 minutes the volume of traffic is alarming,” he told the Emergency Broadcast Station at 11.45am.
Mr DeSilva urged residents to stay indoors and said his patrol picked up an elderly man who had been out walking and heading for a restaurant to have lunch.
“We have stated that preparations needed to have been done,” he said. “I’m concerned that people have woken up and said ‘it’s not that bad, it’s breezy’.
“Don’t be fooled. This is not a lull. This is the result of the hurricane’s forward speed slowing down which means its pushed everything back but we know from our experience and the Bermuda Weather Service things can change in a heartbeat.
“Be in your homes now and wait this out.”
