Cell phone engineers are working to restore mobile networks across the Island today in the wake of Hurricane Gonzalo.

Both Digicel and CellOne were impacted by the huge Category 3 hurricane that hit the Island last night causing widespread damage.

Today CellOne chief executive officer Frank Amaral: “Our network services were obviously impacted and our field technicians are already out assessing and repairing damage from the storm.

“We encourage all customers to limit usage, especially data, for emergency purposes only at this time.

”This will minimise congestion on the network until such time that it is brought up to full capacity.

“Your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.”

Digicel engineers are currently working ‘non-stop’ to bring the mobile network back to full capacity.

While the network remained operational throughout the passing of Gonzola and the majority of customers were able to complete calls and use data throughout the storm, customers can expect a disruption of service today as field engineers assess and repair structural damage.

Digicel CEO, Alistair Beak, said: “Primarily, it is reassuring to hear that most people have remained safe with few reported injuries which is testament to Bermuda’s preparation.

“Please bear with us as we commence repairs to our network which has inevitably sustained damage after such an intense storm.”
