Just over 3,800 without power
A little more than 3,800 homes remained without electricity tonight as Belco crews worked late into the evening to restore power in the wake of Hurricane Gonzalo.
At 10:30pm, 3,869 residences had no electricity, a drop of more than 4,000 from this afternoon.
The number of homes without power has fluctuated during the day as technicians targeted areas on North Shore and Khyber Pass that sustained some of the worst damage during the hurricane.
“Throughout the restoration process, when we are getting circuits on, others will have to be switched off temporarily,” a spokeswoman for Belco said.
“Switching can happen at any hour when crews are working and can be brief or may last for an hour or more, depending on the work. This is a normal part of the work process. We appreciate the public’s patience as the restoration process continues.”
At 9pm there were 1,515 customers without power in the central parishes, 110 in the City of Hamilton, 1,118 at the East End and 2,280 at the West End. The overall total dropped to 3,869 at 10.30pm.
The spokeswoman added: “We are now expecting CARILEC member utility companies to supply 17 linemen. We are very grateful to CARILEC, the utility companies, the linemen who have agreed to help and to Bermuda Immigration and Bermuda Customs for facilitating the arrival of these men and their equipment.”
