BBC radio feed hit by storm
BBC news, relayed through VSB radio, remains off the air after damage inflicted by Tropical Storm Fay.
A VSB spokesman explained that the storm shattered a special roof satellite dish at the Reid Street studios.
“We are in the process of trying to repair it or replace it,” he added.
The station has decided to to pick up from the internet either news highlights or three-minute pieces from the BBC World selection, depending on the time of day.
“We have resumed offering a TV news on our website www.vsb.bm and on You Tube from six o’clock every evening, and is then available 24 hours a day,” said the spokesman.
“We also put major items on our Facebook page during the day, and negotiations continue for teaming up with a possible partner to transmit our TV news on a cable channel.
“Radio news has continued in its traditional spots on Mix 106 FM and 1450 AM Gold, as regular listeners will have noticed when we had power during the last two diffficult weeks.”
