Police will be out in force this Halloween to ensure families can enjoy the spooky festivities in safety.

Acting Superintendent, Jerome Laws, today urged motorists to slow down when driving through neighbourhoods where children might be trick or treating.

And he called on adults accompanying the youngsters to wear bright and reflective clothing so they could be seen by drivers.

At a press conference this morning Mr Laws said: “During the past three years we have seen an encouraging decline in the level of antisocial associated with Halloween festivities and we will be working hard again this year to continue that trend.

“We are mindful that there are persons in the community who will attempt to use Halloween as an opportunity to commit crimes that might cause injury to persons and damage to property.

“The BPS would like to reassure the public that such behaviour will not be tolerated and officers will use all lawful powers to deter and detect antisocial behaviour.”

Mr Laws appealed to the public for their help and cooperation in reducing the need for police intervention.

He added: “We are aware that eggs, and this year avocados, have already been used.

“Throwing eggs or other at people or property may seem like a meaningless prank but this irresponsible and dangerous act can cause personal injury and property damage.”
