Hamilton flu express postponed

Pauline Forbes gets her annual flu shot earlier this week in Warwick

Flu shots will be given out to drive-through customers on Wednesday in Warwick, rather than tomorrow in Hamilton as originally planned.

The Department of Health’s “flu express”, which had been set for 10am to 2pm at the car park of the Hamilton Health Centre car park at 67 Victoria Street, will proceed at the same time next week.

It will go ahead at the Warwick Clinic, situated by the Warwick Post Office under the rubber tree at 70, Middle Road.

The service allows people to drive up and get vaccinated while waiting in their cars. Those wishing to receive the shot should bring along $10 in cash for each one, and make sure that nurses have easy access to their upper arm as an injection site. Persons over the age of 65 will get the vaccine for free.

The season for the virus, which shifts to a new strain each year, tends to peak around January and February. Flu shots, composed of a few deactivated strains of influenza, confer some degree of immunity to the illness.
