Police repeat plea for impounded vehicles
Police are repeating their plea for the owners of impounded vehicles to collect them.
Motorbikes, pedal cycles and even a kayak are in the possession of the Bermuda Police Service and their rightful owners are urged to come forward.
“These vehicles are a combination of recovered reported stolen vehicles and the registered owner is not contactable or has left the island, vehicles taken from collision scenes for safe keeping and have not been collected, or the owner has not given the police written permission to dispose of it, and vehicles that are not registered, such as motorcross motorcycles and pedal cycles,” said Inspector Robert Cardwell, head of the Roads Policing Unit.
“In the case of motocross motorcycles, in particular, these are frequently seized as a result of the rider dropping them and making good their escape or, where the rider has been arrested on suspicion of taking it without the owner’s consent, the lawful owner cannot be traced and the rider has no interest in claiming it.”
Residents who have had a pedal cycle or motocross bike stolen — or anyone who has lost a kayak — should contact the Impound Officer to view or claim property. E-mail lswan@bps.bm or call 247-1454.
“The Police Service’s priority is to return this property to their rightful owners,” Insp Cardwell said.
