Hazardous waste being collected
Hazardous waste such as old pesticides can be disposed of at Tynes Bay this week.
Residents are urged to safely get rid of any potentially dangerous or toxic items during a special waste drop-off event on Friday and Saturday.
Fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, hobby chemicals, outdated medicines and anything with a hazardous or warning label can be taken to the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Plant on Palmetto Road, Devonshire, between 9am and 4pm.
Items such as these should not be put in your regular household garbage because they can pose a risk to your health, the health of waste-collection staff, and the environment.
All special waste collected during the semi-annual Special Waste Drop-off event, organised by the Ministry of Public Works, will be sent overseas for safe disposal or, when possible, recycling.
