Bermuda’s Kimberley Zuill to share hurricane insights
Bermuda Weather Service director Kimberley Zuill is to speak on this year’s hurricane season, plus the two storms that struck the Island last month, at the annual conference in Florida of the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH).
Ms Zuill will take the stage with Rick Knabb, the director of the National Hurricane Centre, for the conference in Orlando dubbed “Resilience Revolution”.
FLASH is a non-profit group dedicated to improving safety from natural disasters. Its conference, which runs from November 19 to 21, is described by the organisation as an “exclusive gathering of the thought leaders, policymakers and subject matter experts from the Disaster Safety and Mitigation Movement”.
Ms Zuill and Dr Knabb will address the gathering on insights learned from the current Atlantic Hurricane Season, which ends on November 30. This year’s season included a visit to the Island by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Hurricane Hunters, who used the Island as a base for sending scientific probes into September’s Hurricane Edouard.
Ms Zuill will also speak of the impact on Bermuda of Tropical Storm Fay and Hurricane Gonzalo, which struck Bermuda on October 12 and 17.
