Throne Speech not public this year

Rainy weather expected for tomorrow means the Throne Speech will be held indoors at the Cabinet building and closed to the public because of limited space.

Governor George Fergusson’s reading of the Throne Speech will take place in the Senate Chambers before a select audience.

In a statement released this afternoon, Speaker of the House Randolph Horton said: “Having consulted with the president of the Senate and the Governor, I have advised the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition that the Convening of the Legislature and the Joint Session at which the Speech from the Throne is delivered will be held at the Senate Chambers in light of the forecasted inclement weather.”

Owing to limited space in the Senate Chambers, seating will only be available for Members of Parliament, Members of the Senate, senior Government officials and invited dignitaries.

While there will be no public seating available, The Royal Gazette will be posting regular updates throughout the ceremony from our official Twitter account, @theroyalgazette.

Members of the public can also view the event live on CITV or listen to live radio coverage on FM89.1, FM105 or AM 1450.
