Middle-aged man faces serious assault charge

A 57-year-old has denied launching a serious attack on a man in the street that left him in intensive care.

Arthur Douglas pleaded not guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm on Cannoth Roberts with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

The alleged attack took place on Union Street in Hamilton in the early hours of Saturday.

The court heard that Mr Roberts is still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

Mr Douglas, of Devonshire, did not enter a plea to the charge because it can be dealt with only in Supreme Court.

He was remanded in custody until November 26 when the case will be mentioned again at Magistrates’ Court.
