Burnie to be buried at sea, all welcome to attend
The family of the late veterinarian and ocean activist Dr Neil Burnie has invited all who knew him to attend his sea burial on Sunday.
All boats will be departing Albouy’s Point at 10am. Dr Burnie, 61, died on Tuesday after a free-diving accident off Horseshoe Bay.
“We welcome anyone who would like to join us at the sea burial to say farewell and celebrate his life this Sunday,” Kim Deuss, his daughter, said. “Please feel free to bring unpackaged flowers without any plastic or paper to send along with Neil in the ocean.”
Ms Deuss asked that instead of sending flowers to the family, any donations can go towards a charitable trust, in the process of formation, in memory of Neil Burnie and in support of Marine Education and Research.
Donations may be made to MJM Limited (BD$) Client Trust A/C #006 018279 002, or cheques made payable to MJM Limited Client Trust (in each case, reference Neil Burnie).
A Facebook tribute page has been launched for Dr Burnie for people to share photographs and memories. It can be found by searching for Neil Burnie Tribute Page on Facebook.
Dr Burnie leaves behind his loving wife, Katrin, a son, Oscar Deuss, daughter Kim, and siblings Judith Sweetman, Jonathan Burnie, brother-in-law Rufus Sweetman, sister-in-law Meg Burnie, and pets Kia, Hugo, Ziggy and Kitty Michael.
