The Department of Airport Operations confirmed that Delta Flight 561, arriving from Boston, encountered a bird strike upon arrival at the LF Wade International Airport yesterday morning.

A statement reported that following a review of the aircraft at the gate, it was determined that the bird strike did not cause any major damage.

Passengers initially booked on the return flight to Boston were rebooked on Delta’s other regularly scheduled flights to New York JFK and Atlanta respectively.

Bird strikes are not unusual according to Airport Operations quoted figures — last year, there were 36 confirmed reports of bird strikes at the LF Wade International Airport.

Between 1990 and 2013, the FAA reported about 142,000 wildlife strikes with civil aircraft in the United States.
