Tributes to devoted dad and businessman
Bermudian businessman Ira “Chips” Outerbridge III has passed away at the age of 66.
Mr Outerbridge, who served as company secretary for dozens of locally registered international companies, was a fixture of Bermuda’s corporate world for three decades.
His relatives told how he was also a loving family man and devoted father.
His wife Lily Outerbridge said: “He was a generous, gentle and complex person.
“He was very funny, but sardonic at the same time. He was a loving father and a devoted husband.
“He loved to read, and had an impressive memory. He was the family reference book.
“He wasn’t a social person, but he had close, good friends who stayed with him all his life and he was very close to his brothers Steven, Patrick and Layton Outerbridge. They were the four musketeers.”
She said Mr Outerbridge was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the Australian cricket team.
Mr Outerbridge’s daughter, Patricia Outerbridge, described her father as a constant source of support, patience and understanding.
“He loved us no matter what,” she said. “His love was the true meaning of unconditional love.
“My brother Blaine and I were honoured to have him as a father. We were blessed. We all were.”
Mr Outerbridge graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, and spent 25 years at Conyers Dill & Pearman in the position of corporate manager.
