Bermuda’s Horseshoe Bay has been crowned the second best beach in the Caribbean.

The South Shore landmark was praised for its glorious pink sands but was beaten by Crane Beach in Barbados after a month of voting in the USA Today readers’ choice contest.

The newspaper said the two “fought long and hard for top honours, and after four weeks of voting, Crane Beach — known for its spectacular natural scenery and gentle waves — came out on top”.

Crane Beach is on the southeastern side of Barbados and was described as “secluded and pristine” with “dramatic natural scenery and plenty of gentle wave action for boogie boarding, body surfing or just splashing around in the Caribbean Sea”.

Third place went to Baby Beach in Aruba, fourth to Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman, fifth to Sandy Point in St Croix, sixth to Shoal Bay in Anguilla, seventh to Orient Bay Beach in Sint Maarten, eighth to Bathsheba Beach in Barbados, ninth to Seaquarium Beach in Curacao and the number ten spot went to Magens Bay in St. Thomas.
