PALS gets limbered up for annual walk
The 27th annual PALS Walk will be held on March 1 to support cancer care in Bermuda. This is the organisation’s key annual fundraiser, with contributed funds donated to medical care, equipment and supplies for cancer patients who are in need of support.
Ann Smith Gordon, the president and chief executive officer of PALS, said: “It was 28 years ago when Diana Simons dreamed up the novel idea of a sponsored walk from the Dockyard to Albuoy’s Point in order to raise funds for PALS. Since that time, thousands of people, young and old, including babies in prams and even dogs have enjoyed the ferry ride under a glorious sunrise before setting off on the trek, mostly along the Railway Trail, to the finish line in Hamilton.”
Walk pledges enable five PALS nurses to make thousands of home visits annually at no charge, as well as provide a large array of medical equipment.
Registration for the event is now open. The fee is $25 but $15 for participants aged 15 and younger. Walkers must be registered before the day of the event and may submit the registration form and fee as follows:
• Online at www.pals.bm. Select: Make Donation, Fund Raising, Sponsored Walk
• PALS Office until February 25 (weekdays, from 10am to 5pm)
• Washington Mall (today, Wednesday, Friday, February 23 to 27, 11am to 2pm)
Entrants can collect forms at the Sportseller in Washington Mall until February 25.

The walk route is a total of 15 miles from Dockyard to Albuoy’s Point. Participants may register as individuals or teams. A free ferry to Dockyard will leave Hamilton Ferry Terminal at 7am. The walk will begin at 7.30am. A certificate of participation will be presented at Albuoy’s Point.
