Disruption to bus schedules announced
The Department of Public Transportation is experiencing some minor disruption in bus service and ticket office service that is expected to affect operations.
“As a result of increased absenteeism due to illnesses, long-term medical leave, training and vacations, the Department of Public Transportation is experiencing some delays and cancellations of bus runs,” said Dan Simmons, the Director of Public Transportation.
“It is not clear how great an impact this will have on bus service in the coming weeks, as it will vary daily, based on the level of absenteeism. However, we do anticipate a less reliable schedule.”
Recognising that this is not a preferable situation for the Island’s main public transportation provider, the Department of Public Transportation (DPT) management has apologised for any inconvenience this disruption may cause.
The DPT advises passengers to expect some delays and that they should catch the first bus that comes along that will get them to their destination rather than wait for a preferred route or bus operator.
The DPT will continue to keep the public updated on service levels.
Opening hours of the ticket office at the Central Bus Terminal in Hamilton have changed until further notice:
• Tomorrow (7.15am–6pm)
• Friday (7.15am–5.30pm)
• Saturday (8.15am–4pm)
• Sunday (9.15am–5pm)
The terminal will be closed for lunch between noon and 1pm.
