‘Embrace one another this Easter’
Premier Michael Dunkley has sent an Easter greeting to the Island, urging residents to celebrate our traditions and enjoy a happy holiday.
“I am delighted to extend best wishes to all of Bermuda,” the Premier said. “Ours is an Island built on a strong foundation of lasting traditions. Good Friday is an occasion when we celebrate our special heritage and participate in a uniquely Bermudian tradition.
“It’s a day where we enjoy family and friends, fly our homemade Bermuda kites and indulge in eating delicious fish cakes and hot cross buns. It’s also an occasion when we reflect on the meaning of Good Friday and Easter.
“These two days are considered important occasions on the Christian calendar. I am reminded of the verse from Luke 24:2-3: ‘And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.’
“This significant time chronicles the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“It also highlights the life of Jesus, whose mission was to not only teach us about God the Father and how we should live, but also to make a way for us to be forgiven.
“So as we celebrate this weekend, I encourage you to embrace one another and be ever mindful of the genuine message of Good Friday and Easter Sunday — the message of sacrifice, unconditional love and the hope and the promise of eternal life. On behalf of the Government, I wish everyone a very safe and happy Good Friday and Easter.”
Mr Dunkley and his wife visited rest homes on Wednesday to extend Good Friday and Easter best wishes to senior residents.
They presented care givers and residents at Matilda Smith and Sylvia Richardson rest homes with fresh bouquets of Easter lilies.
