The Bermuda Regiment is seeking the public’s help to find the first soldiers involved in the 50-year-old organisation.

A spokesman for the Regiment’s 50th Anniversary Committee said the group is working to recreate the initial nominal role of the Bermuda Regiment by finding the names of the soldiers who were a part of the body on September 1, 1965, when the Bermuda Militia Artillery and the Bermuda Rifles amalgamated.

While the group has a programme for a Presentation of Colours from November 1965, listing the names of a few senior ranks, there are others they still wish to track down.

“Anyone with relevant information on this first combined body of the Bermuda Regiment are asked to contact the BR50 Committee at br50@gov.bm or via telephone at (441) 238-3880, to provide the soldier’s first and last names, and wherever possible, their rank or appointment, a brief service history and current contact details if the individual is still living,” the spokesman said.

“Persons who fall into this special ‘Class of 1965’ and register with the BR50 Committee will be invited to join in various recognition events, the first taking place after the Peppercorn Ceremony on April 22 at 11.45am. The Class of 1965 will join serving soldiers for food and refreshments at the Royal Artillery Association, celebrating the Regiment’s 50 years and their service contribution.”
