Horseshoe Bay Beach got a cleanup before the holiday weekend courtesy of staff from Marsh and Guy Carpenter, as part of Global Volunteer Month.

May 22 was Bermuda’s designated volunteer day, with 25 countries around the world pitching in this month with volunteer efforts in 240 cities.

With the help of the Department of Parks, local staff tidied the Island’s most popular beach from 9am until noon last Friday.

“Bermuda is a beautiful place and we want to give back to the community,” said David Ezekiel, country corporate officer of Marsh and McLennan Companies, Bermuda, and chairman of Marsh’s Bermuda charity committee.

Marsh and Guy Carpenter are significant global entities: Bermudian-based employees logged 1,859 hours of volunteering last year, and put in 238 volunteer hours in the first quarter of 2015 — marking a 20 per cent increase over 2014.

Worldwide, Marsh and McLennan Companies volunteered a total of 108,000 hours last year, and have set a goal of 120,000 volunteer hours for 2015.
