A new speed bump has been installed outside of The Royal Gazette, which will become an elevated pedestrian crossing.

However, the Corporation of Hamilton, which also installed a new speed bump on North Street, outside the Tools and Equipment Building, warned that work on the speed bumps is not complete.

“The design of the new speed bumps is not yet conducive to road traffic and will be adjusted this evening after peak traffic,” a spokesman said.

“Meanwhile, the City has marked both areas with traffic cones, lights and signs and advises motorists to approach very slowly, to avoid damage or incident.”

The new installation on Par-la-Ville Road comes four months after the crosswalk was shifted farther south in the wake of the death of political cartoonist and illustrator Peter Woolcock, 88. Mr Woolcock is believed to have fallen from the sidewalk on to a passing car.

The accident led to calls from Royal Gazette executives to move the crossing farther from the roundabout to help drivers to see pedestrians attempting to cross the street.
