Tucker’s Point seeking to add guest rooms
Tucker’s Point Resort is seeking in-principle approval to erect additional guest rooms, along with a new conference centre.
According to an application received by the Department of Planning on May 22, the project would involve the demolition of the existing spa facilities, replacing it with a new five-storey wing.
The basement level of the structure would remain untouched, but the application proposes the creation of a new conference centre on the ground floor, featuring board rooms, a business centre, a lobby and a small coffee bar.
“It is anticipated that this multi-function space will cater to weddings and performance arts,” the application states.
The new wing would house spa treatment facilities on the second floor, along with changing rooms, showers, a yoga/Pilates studio and a retail area.
The three upper floors would each contain 16 new guest rooms. The project would also include four additional guest units and one guest suite above the existing north wing of the resort.
According to the application, the new wing would be erected on the footprint of the existing spa, and as a result the reflecting pool and spa courtyard would be lost. It also states that, as part of the remodelling, the resort’s croquet lawn would be replaced with an alfresco food and beverage outlet, servicing those using the pool and conference centre.
Tucker’s Point Hotel and Resort was put up for sale this year after falling into receivership in 2013. As of February, the 88-room hotel, complete with golf, beach and fractional units, was being marketed internationally by the Miami-based agency Jones Lang LaSalle. The Rosewood-operated resort employs between 200 and 300, depending on the season, and the receiver has said the business has taken on a 15 per cent increase in membership since falling into receivership.
